Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering
In this research a new model reduction approach for the ASM3 model and its extensions is introduced to reduce the number of process rates by half through combining the aerobic and anoxic rates under one general process rate. This reduction approach does not compromise the model results and allowed the development of one generalized reduced model of the ASM3 and its extensions. In addition, an IASM3-S model is developed to overcome the shortcomings of the original ASM3 when applied to mixed wastewater with high COD concentrations, water temperature, and pH values. The model was calibrated and validated using data records from the Western 6th of October municipal-industrial WWTP where the results showed good agreement with the field measurements
