Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Summary: This thesis is concerned with the development of simple and accurate methods for the determination of some ß-blockers, namely; atenolol, bisoprolol fumarate, carvedilol, propranolol hydrochloride, nebivolol hydrochloride and timolol maleate either alone or in combination with other drugs. Different methods have been introduced for determination of the analyzed drugs in their pure form and either in pharmaceutical dosage forms or in biological fluids. RP-HPLC methods using ultraviolet detection were applied for the simultaneous determination of bisoprolol fumarate and amlodipine besylate in binary mixture, for the simultaneous determination of bisoprolol fumarate, carvedilol and hydrochlorothiazide in ternary mixture, and for the simultaneous determination five ß-blockers namely; atenolol, bisoprolol fumarate, propranolol hydrochloride, nebivolol hydrochloride and carvedilol using timolol maleate as an internal standard in bulk and in pharmaceutical dosage forms. Also a LC-MS/MS method has been developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of timolol maleate, dorzolamide hydrochloride, brinzolamide and brimonidine tartrate in rabbit aqueous humor using eslicarbazepine as internal standard. Simultaneous determination of carvedilol/hydrochlorothiazide and bisoprolol fumarate/amlodipine besylate in binary mixtures was applied using chemometric methods and artificial neural networks. Also second derivative and zero order spectrophotometric methods were developed for determination of bisoprolol fumarate and amlodipine besylate in binary mixture. The proposed methods were validated and statistically compared with reference methods where no significant difference was found
