John Steinbeck{u2019}s literary works depict social and psychological dimensions of man{u2019}s life. According to social theories, it is within society that man{u2019}s character is shaped and his values are formed. Throughout his writings, Steinbeck develops a concern for man as the essential component of the social structure. Crises and disasters influence this social structure as regards notions and values which in turn affect human relations. Man in Steinbeck{u2019}s novels reveals his concepts and values through dialogues. Therefore, this study is based on the belief that crises change societies internally and externally as well. Also, the thesis questions change as an emerging state of social and behavioral disorder that expands in levels. Each level manifests a certain condition; however the outcome brings these conditions together. That is, the internal destruction of man and the external collapse of the social structure result in unfit and incapable persons who lose the life struggle.
