Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine- Department of Critical Care Medicine Summary: The study aimed to identify prevalence, mortality rate of severe sepsis and septic shock, and its relation to risk factors as age, associated comorbidities, types of organ failure, source and type of infection. Patient files were screened to determine whether they fulfilled the inclusion criteria for sever sepsis and septic shock. For every patient, data of physiologic, laboratory parameters during the septic episode along with clinical, radiological and/or microbiological evidence of infection, until ICU discharge or demise were registered
