This work has been done to prepare new binary and ternary complexes of sudan III azodye as primary ligand and 1,10-phenanthroline as secondary ligand with different bi- and trivalent metal ions as Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II). These chelates have been subjected to different analytical techniques as elemental analyses, IR spectra, ¹H NMR, mass spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility, solid reflectance spectra, conductivity measurements, XRD and ESR techniques. The binary and ternary chelates were subjected to thermal analyses (TG and DTG) and the different activation thermodynamic parameters as E*, {u2206}H*, {u2206}S* and {u2206}G* were calculated from their corresponding DTG curves using Horowitz-Metzger and Coats-Redfern methods to throw more light on the nature of changes accompanying the thermal decomposition process of these complexes. All complexes were found to have octahedral geometry. The Cd(II) binary complex was found to have tetrahedral geometry. All the synthesized complexes have been evaluated in vitro for their antibacterial and antifungal activities against several microorganisms and they are found to have good antibacterial activity.
