Background: Innovation is considered as a corner stone at any health care organization that aimed at reaching the excellence in delivering health care to patients, staff job satisfaction and to stay in the competition among other organizations. Leadership behaviors for a long period of time captivated the researchers because of its direct and strong effect on health care system ,staff nurse productivity .Nevertheless the leadership behaviors is rarely examined in relation with the staff nurses innovative work behavior. Aim: the current study was conducted to explore the relationship between first line nurse managers leadership behaviors' and staff nurses innovative work behaviors. Design: A descriptive correlation study design was used to achieve the aim of the current study .Setting: the study was conducted at six medical intensive care units at ElManial University hospital and ElManial Specialized hospital. Sample: a convenient sample (74) staff nurses who deliver direct patient care at the selected setting. Tool: data was collected by using modified Multifactor leadership behaviors questionnaire and modified Innovative Work Behavior questionnaire. Results: the result of the current study revealed that the unit nurse managers at selected units utilize transactional leadership style followed by transformational leadership behavior, and, there were a significant relation among all unit nurse manager transformational, transactional and laissez faire leadership behaviors dimensions and innovative work behaviors dimensions. Recommendations: the current study recommended that the importance of designing training program for unit nurse managers about how to select and utilize effective leadership style and behaviors which will initiate staff nurse innovative work behavior, Finally the importance of the role of health care organizations should realize the importance of the unit nurse manager and staff nurses role in developing health care delivery system
