Background: Chronic gastritis is a histopathologic entity characterized by chronic inflammation of the stomach mucosa. Gastritis can be classified on the basis of the underlying cause into infectious in which H.pylori is the most common cause and non-infectious causes. Angiogenesis is the process through which new blood vessels formed from pre-existing vessels in physiological and pathological conditions . It is a normal and vital process in growth and development, as well as in granulation tissue formation and wound healing. However, it is also a fundamental step in the transition of tumors from a dormant state to a malignant one, so the use of angiogenesis inhibitors is beneficial in such cases. Understanding the process of angiogenesis might suggest an effective therapeutic target that would prevent disease progression. Aim of the work: This study aimed to find a relationship between gastric angiogenesis and the degree of H.pylori chronic gastritis. Results: The relation between the intensity of H.pylori associated gastritis and value of CD34 expression was highly significant with P value =0.001, also the relation between H.pylori infection and degree of chronic inflammation was highly significant with p value <0.0001.Also the gender showed significant relations with the degree of chronic inflammation, intensity of H.pylori infection and degree of CD34 expression with P values=0.023, 0.047 and 0.013 respectively. The degree of CD34 expression was statistically significant with degree of chronic inflammation with P value=0.0506. Conclusion: To summarize from the gastric biopsies of patients suffering from H.pylori chronic gastritis, the number of newly formed blood vessels was found to be positively associated with degree of H.pylori chronic gastritis.
