Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Radio-diagnosis Summary: Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is one of the important complications of diabetes. DTI allows accurate visualization of nerves by means of their fractional anisotropy (FA) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC). Results: In the current study, there was no significant difference between the mean FA values 0.48, 0.51(P value = 0.372) and mean ADC values 1.185,1.068 (P value = 0.053) of the upper segment of median in patient and control groups respectively, while the upper segment of ulnar not traced in all patients. On the other hand there is significant difference between the mean FA values 0.42 , 0.45 (P value = 0.009) and ADC values 1.374,1.148 (P value = 0.009) of the lower segment of median to patient and control groups respectively, also there is significant difference between the mean FA value 0.38,0.58 (P value = 0.000) and ADC values 1.345,0.878 (P value = 0.000) of the lower segment of ulnar nerve to patient and control groups respectively, that mean there is reduction in the mean FA values of the lower segment of median and ulnar nerve in all patients in spite of present of 20% of them not diagnosed by the NCS. Conclusion: DTI with FA measurement of the lower segment of median and ulnar nerves is helpful tool to asses diabetic peripheral neuropathy
