Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Anesthesia Summary: Laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation in anaesthetized children is often associated with hypertension and tachycardia. This may be the result of reflex sympathetic activation, perhaps involving the baroreceptor system provoked by airway nociceptive stimulus. It has been shown that different phases of the intubation process can cause different degrees of circulatory response, as indeed does mechanical stimulation of different sites in the airway. Various pharmacological agents have been used to prevent these effects e.g. narcotics, calcium channel blockers, sodium channel blockers, vasodilators, and paracetamol. Because Magnesium can modify many calcium{u2013}mediated responses
