Obesity is a worldwide epidemic disease that is known to play a role in the development of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) has been shown to be an effective and efficient mean of achieving significant and sustainable weight loss in severely obese individuals. Therefore, it leads to the improvement of most of obesity related comorbidities. However, the effect of LSG on GERD remains controversial. The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of LSG on morbidly obese patients with pre-operative GERD and to detect the development of de novo GERD postoperatively by radionuclide scintigraphy and symptom reporting
