Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Family Medicine Summary: Aim: To evaluate the effecacy of the oral misoprosol to facilitate IUCD insertion in women who delivered only by cesarean section. Methodology: Double blinded placebo randomized cotrolled clinical trial,study conducted in Kafr-Elgabl Family medicine center on 200 woman candidate forCuT380A IUCD insertion will be enrolled in the study.Half of them will receive 200-400 microgram of misoprostol oral and the other half will receive the placebo.All participants will be subjected to full history,US,bimanual examination and sounding of the uterus.Both the participant and the clinician will be filled directly the scale directly after the insertion procedure and all participants will be seen for routine check-up 6 weeks after IUCD insertion.The collected data will be organized,tabulated and analyzed using appropriate statistical tests Result : Among the included women,administration of misoprostol prior to IUCD insertion was significantly associated with almost 3-fold reduced risk of moderate/difficult uterine sounding and associated with 26% reduction in the rate of moderate/difficult uterine sounding,2 fold reduced risk of failed IUCD insertion.There was no significant difference between two group as regard IUCD site and infection after 6 weeks Conclusion: Using of misoprostol at a dose of 400 microgram administered orally 30 min prior to IUCD insertion with no previous vaginal delivery increased the ease of insertion and reduced the incidence of pain during the procedure, although the frequency of cramps increased following misoprostol use
