Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering
In this research, shear transfer across the interface of push-off specimens have been studied. Many parameters have an effect on the mechanism of shear transfer. The effect of degree of interface roughness, using of epoxy paints, use of steel dowels, inclination angle of the steel reinforcement on the shear plane (slant angle), diameter of steel bars while keeping the total steel area constant and other parameters have been studied by conducting a series of direct shear tests on 52 different push-off specimens. Results show that the ultimate shear strength, the slip as well as the crack width at the ultimate load (ultimate crack width) were found to be affected by all the studied parameters. As the degree of interface roughness increases the ultimate shear transfer strength and the ultimate crack width increase. However, the slip decreases. Also it was found that increasing the amount of steel dowels caused an increase in the ultimate shear transfer strength, the effect of this parameter on both the slip value and the ultimate crack width have been also discussed in this thesis. Finally, the influence of all the other studied parameters has been stated
