Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - National Institute of Laser Enhanced Science - Department of Laser Application in Engineering Summary: Imaging is a very important diagnostic modality in many applications of our life such as medicine and astronomy. In medicine, there are many imaging techniques used in different diagnostic purposes. X-ray imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, gamma rays imaging, ultrasound imaging and optical imaging are the most common ones. The most safe of these modalities are ultrasound and optical imaging methods. Optical imaging is also has the advantage of providing real colored images with higher resolution than those obtained by ultrasound. Although of its advantages, optical imaging still suffers from the presence of aberration. Aberration has many types and many correction methods have been provided by the researchers. Very recently, the use of the adaptive optics has been evolved in aberration correction. Adaptive optics can adapt themselves according to the nature of the wavefront (image) they deal with. The deformation occurred to the wavefront while passing in the optical path is thus compensated for by the adaptive optics. This in turn, results in aberration correction and image improvement
