Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Inorganic Chemistry Summary: This work had been carried out to investigate the coordination behaviour of novel series of metal complexes of two novel diazo compounds, (2,2'-(1,3- phenylenebis(diazene-2,1-diyl))bis(4-chlorophenol)) (H2L1), was synthesized from the reaction of m-phenelyenediamine with p-chlorophenol and 2,2'-(1,3- phenylenebis(diazene-2,1-diyl))bis(4-aminobenzoicacid) diazo ligand (H2L2) derived from m-phenelyenediamine and p-aminobenzoic acid, towards some bi- and trivalent metal ions like Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II). The solid chelates of the different ligands were prepared and subjected to many analytical techniques such as elemental analyses, mass spectroscopy, ESR, IR, 1H NMR and solid reflectance spectra, magnetic moment, molar conductance, XRD and thermal analyses techniques. The chelates were found to have octahedral geometry. New ligands and their chelates were subjected to thermal analyses (TG and DTG). The biological activity (antimicrobial activity) of the new azo lignads and thier metal complexes were also screened
