Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Pathology
This work aimed at assessing the expression of PTEN in normal proliferative endometrium, simple endometrial hyperplasia, complex atypical hyperplasia (CAH) and endometrial endometrioid carcinoma (EECA). Ninety paraffin embedded endometrial tissue samples diagnosed as: 30 within normal proliferative endometrium (as a control group), 15 simple hyperplasia and 15 CAH and 30 EECA were obtained during the period from March, 2011 till December, 2012 from surgical pathology files of pathology department, Faculty of medicine, Cairo university, Kasr Elaini hospital and other private laboratories. PTEN immunoreactivity was noted in all cases of the normal proliferative endometrium and simple hyperplasia, 66.7% of CAH (10 / 15 cases), and 53.3% of EECA (16 / 30 cases). The intensity of staining was significantly higher in normal proliferative endometrium and simple hyperplasia than in CAH and EECA
