Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Oral Biology Summary: To compare the healing potential of ginger (zingiber officinale) and garlic (allium sativum) as separate systemic treatment modalities on induced labial ulcer in male albino rats. One hundred and twenty adult male albino rats weighing 150-200 gm were used in this study. The animals were divided into 4 groups as follows: Group 1: (negative control) consisted of 30 healthy rats. Group 2: (positive control) consisted of 30 rats with induced labial ulcer left without treatment. Group 3: (ginger group) consisted of 30 rats with induced labial ulcer treated with ginger extract in a dose equal to (200 mg / kg body weight once daily) given orally through gastric tube. Group 4: (Garlic group) consisted of 30 rats with induced labial ulcer treated with garlic in a dose equal to (500 mg / kg body weight once daily) given orally through gastric tube. Ten rats from each group were sacrificed at 3, 7, 14 days from the beginning of the treatment. Through the histological examination using Haematoxylin and Eosin stain, masson{u2019}s trichrome stain to investigate the newly formed collagen fibers, immune histochemical examination using CD31 antibody to detect the angiogenesis, image analysis and Statistical analysis for the immuno-histochemical stain
