Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Inorganic Chemistry Summary: Three novel schiff bases of 2 (1,5 dimethyl 3 - oxo - 2 phenyl 2,3 dihydro 1H pyrazol -4- yl) imino) (phenyl)methyl) benzoic acid (HL¹), 2,2' (1Z,1'Z) - (pyridine 2,6 diylbis(azanylylidene)) bis (phenylmethanylylidene)) dibenzoic acid (H₂L²), 2,2' (1Z,1'Z) - (1,3 phenylenebis(azanylylidene) bis(phenylmethanylylidene) dibenzoic acid (H₂L³) and their complexes with Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn (II) and Cd(II) were prepared and subjected to many analytical techniques such as elemental analyses, mass spectroscopy, ESR, IR, 1H NMR and solid reflectance spectra, magnetic moment, molar conductance, XRD, thermal analyses techniques (TG and DTG) and different activation thermodynamic parameters, namely E*, {u2206}H*, {u2206}S* and {u2206}G* were calculated from their corresponding DTG curves to throw more light on the nature of changes accompanying the thermal decomposition process of these complexes. The chelates were found to have octahedral geometry except Co (II) - H₂L² Ni (II) - H₂L², Cu (II) - H₂L², Zn (II)- H₂L²and Cd (II) - H₂L² which have trigonal bipyramidal geometry. The biological activity (antimicrobial and antibreastic cancer activity) of the ligands and their complexes were also screened
