Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and dental medicine - Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Summary: The aim of the study was to evaluate the use of patient specific titanium devices fabricated using computer aided design and electron beam melting technologies to reconstruct maxillary defects. The study was conducted on three adult patients from the Faculty of Dentistry {u2013} Cairo University; two males and one female. Two of the patients received immediate reconstruction while one received delayed reconstruction five years after resection.MDCTs were made and the scans imported into the computer software (MIMICS 15). Virtual surgical and reconstruction procedures were carried out according to the unique course of surgery and the design of PSI required. Visual analogue scale was used to evaluate the patients{u2019} satisfaction of facial contour preoperatively and postoperatively. The postoperative CT was ordered using the same preoperative parameters. The scans were also imported into the software to measure the anterior facial prominence and palatal contour, and compared to the normal side to evaluate symmetry. The results showed that in all patients the postoperative contour was better than the preoperative one. Moreover, the CT measurements showed an improvement in adaptation and symmetry of the PSIs from patient 1 to 2 to 3; where case no. 1 had the poorest resemblance on both sides with excessive anterior projection of the reconstructed side.
