Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Radio-diagnosis
Diffusion-tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DTI) and fiber tractography are new methods that can demonstrate the orientation and integrity of white matter fibers in vivo and is considered a powerful method for characterizing changes in tissue microstructure associated with different brain and spinal cord disorders. Many recent research and clinical studies have focused on the application of the newer MR techniques of diffusion imaging in cranio- spinal trauma. Few studies have however addressed the problem of applying MR techniques to study the outcome of this group of patients. The ability to identify white matter tract disruption may be a useful index of injury severity and may allow insight into likely recovery and long- term disability
