Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Ophthalmology Summary: Neovascular glaucoma (NVG) is a form of secondary glaucoma. It is a potentially devastating glaucoma, where delayed diagnosis or poor management can result in complete loss of vision. Numerous secondary ocular and systemic diseases that share one common element, retinal ischemia/hypoxia and subsequent release of an angiogenesis factor, cause NVG. vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) play a major role in angiogenesis. Once released, the angiogenic factor(s) diffuses into the aqueous and the anterior segment and interacts with vascular structures, result in NVI and NVA, which are prone to vascular leakage and are usually accompanied by a fibrous membrane, resulting in PAS and progressive synechial angle closure. The commonest causes of NVG are proliferative diabetic retinopathy, ischaemic central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and ocular ischaemic syndrome
