Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Arts - Department of English Summary: In the past few years, the whole world has been involved in what the west calls 2The War on Terror3 and the hunt for terrorists, a war that was started after the events of September 11. But terrorism and terrorists are not new phenomena. History tells us that terrorism and terrorist acts are as old as life itself and, as an unenviable result, they were represented in works of literature either under these names or under other names. And regardless of what they were called and what they are called now, the end result is the same: fear. And this is what led to the rise of the trend of writing about terrorism in fiction, especially in the past few years. The fear of terrorism led writers to follow either one of two approaches: either to try to explain the reasons behind it or to show the devastating results caused by it
