Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Clinical and Chemical Pathology Summary: Background: Research in many laboratories is carried out to develop new approaches that allows quick and accurate identification of disease-causing yeasts because such identification shows prognostic and therapeutic significance, allowing the early and correct antifungal therapy, which is also necessary, especially because the incidence of human disease caused by the less common Candida species has increased, besides that ,the combination of different pathogenic microbes with Candida such as streptococci and staphylococci and Gram negative microorganisms exhibits high antimicrobial resistance. It can be due to: - Candida species serve as the scaffolding with bacteria interspersed among the hyphal network .In addition bacterial extracellular matrix (ECM) staining revealed a different phenotype in polymicrobial versus monomicrobial biofilms, bacteria may become coated in the ECM secreted by Candida species during polymicrobial biofilm formation. Study Question: Is to Compare different methods of Candida identification using Germ tube ,CHROM agar in relation to Rice Tween 80 agar and susceptibility testing of Candida by Integral system yeast plus versus antifungal discs &to study the effect of association of Candida with different bacteria on their antimicrobial
