Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Chemical Engineering
In the present thesis dust from dryer cyclones in ceramic industry was used in the manufacturing of geopolymer bricks. Dust was characterized after firing by using XRD, XRF, PSD and bulk density. Caustic soda was used by the percentages of 1% with Ca(OH)2 percentages of 6 to 10%, mixed with the fired waste and molded to form geopolymer bricks. The properties of produced bricks were studied after 28 days where the bulk density, cold water absorption, boiled water absorption, saturation coefficient, porosity and compressive strength .It is found that the results exhibit an agreement with ASTM C62 / 2013 with the recipe of: 1% NaOH, 10% Ca(OH)2 and 38% water. Also the results were confirmed by photographing the samples by SEM which showed a confirmation with the porosity and the brick composition
