Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Anaesthesia Summary: Regional anesthesia is the first anesthetic choice for lower abdominal, lower extremity, urologic, gynecologic, and anorectal surgeries. Advantages of regional anesthesia in parturient include an awake mother during delivery, minimal neonatal depression, optimal working conditions for the obstetrician and avoidance of the risks of general anesthesia with lesser maternal morbidity and mortality. Spinal anesthesia is the most common regional anesthesia conducted for many surgical procedures Patient refusal for regional anesthesia is the most important contraindication for the use of regional technique. Although regional anesthesia for cesarean section is a global trend; there are still obstetric patients who refuse it
