Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Periodontology Summary: Adeponectin is an adipocytokine, which have been studied for it{u2019}s role in periodontitisThe aim of the present studyis to assess the gingival crevicular fluid adiponectin level in patients with moderate chronic periodontitisbefore and after non surgical treatment compared with ahealthy control individuals.Setting And Designs Atotal 30 subjects were divided into healthy group (group 1 , n= 10 . They have to meet the following criteria of having sulcus depth <3 mm , no clinical attachment loss , no bleeding on probing ( Bop) or radiographic evidence of bone loss and patients group (group 2, n =20 .They fulfill the criteria of moderate periodontitis. Materials And Methods Gingival crevicular fluid samples of both groups were assayed using ELISA for estimation of their adeponectin level. Results And Conclusion Non-surgical treatment of moderate chronic periodontitis is able to reduce the level of adiponectin in GCF to a level comparable to healthy control.A positive relation exists between the GCF adiponectin levels and the periodontal parameters. The assessment of adiponectin level in GCF reflects the degree of tissue destruction in periodontal disease.Adiponectin has the potential to modulate inflammation in periodontal disease. GCF adiponectin might be a potential biomarker in moderate chronic periodontitis
