Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Summary: The purpose of this study was to compare between the use of double needle cannula and the two needle temporomandibular joint arthrocentesis clinically and by magnetic resonance imaging. Methodology: The present study was carried on twelve patients, ten females and two males with age range of 18-35 years old, all patients complained from pain and clicking within the normal range of mandibular opening movement . The click was mainly felt by the patient within a period of time ranging from a 6 months to 2 years with a progressive increase in magnitude. Patients were divided into two groups as follows:Group } : Included (6) patients. Each patient underwent two needles arthrocentesis using normal saline (0.9% Sodium Chloride infusion) for joint lavage. Group S : Included (6) patients. Each patient underwent double needle cannula arthrocentesis using also normal saline for joint lavage. Results: Decrease in the degree of pain and disappearance of clicking sound were observed clinically without any change in the position of the disc in MRI postoperatively. Conclusion: Double needle cannula and two needle arthrocentesis are both effective in relieving the symptoms associated with anterior disc displacement with reduction
