Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Electrical Power and Machines
This thesis presents a new proposed MPPT algorithm that eradicates the problems that exist in the conventional hill-climbing searching (HCS) MPPT technique. The algorithm is simulated and implemented on a laboratory setup using a grid-connected wound rotor induction generator controlled from the rotor side. Experimental results show that the performance of the control algorithm compares well with the conventional HCS method. As well as, a proposed control algorithm for Grid side converter is presented to improve power quality, regulate grid voltage, and compensate non linear loads harmonics without sensing the non linear loads currents or over-rating the converters. An improved modification is applied to the control algorithm to minimize the DC bus fluctuation during severe wind speed variations. A new modulation technique is applied to the switching scheme of GSC to reduce grid current ripple without increasing the switching frequencies. The simulation and experimental results validate the effectiveness and viability of the proposed control schemes
