Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of General Surgery Summary: The purpose of this prospective study is to assess the results of separation of syndactyly using dorsal plane shaped advancement flap without skin graft. Syndactyly is the fusion of adjacent digits. It is the most common of all congenital hand deformities. Surgical release of this soft tissue is recommended.The release leaves a raw area can be managed by using dorsal plane shaped advancement flap for web reconstruction and primary closure. Twenty webs in twenty hands and feet in seventeen pediatric patient presented with simple syndactyly were included in this study. The mean age was 2.35 years ranging between 1.4 years to 3.6 years. A 2plane shaped3 advancement flap was used for web reconstruction. In the study group the mean time of surgical procedure was 43.25 minutes, the mean healing time was 5.95 weeks, web creep occurred in two cases, skin maceration occured in 3 cases, nail fold condition was excellent in 14 cases and parents{u2019} satisfaction was 80%. All the flaps survived completely without early complications such as infection, vascular compromise or delayed healing.
