Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Summary: Anemia is a widespread public health problem associated with an increased risk of morbidity and mortality, especially in pregnant women globally almost half of pregnant women and close to one third of non pregnant women suffer from anemia. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of maternal iron deficiency anemia on early neonatal iron stores through sampling of cord blood and measurement of serum ferritin (and fetal outcome (neonatal weight, apgar score). Conclusion: The present study shows that maternal iron deficiency anemia affect early neonatal iron scores and neonatal outcome (neonatal weight, apgar score). The study also shows that the severity of maternal iron deficiency anemia correlate with neonatal serum ferritin and neonatal outcome
