In this work, we propose an adaptive conversion framework that combines depth and visual saliency. A user study was designed and subjective quality scores on test videos were obtained using a tailored single-stimulus continuous quality scale (SSCQS) method. The results suggest research directions on the interaction between visual saliency and depth to create better 3D visual experience for human observers especially in biomedical education and training. Moreover, we investigate efficient compression methods of 3D video data to reduce 3D video storage and transfer rate requirements
