Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Internal Medicine Summary: Behcet{u2019}s Disease is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by recurrent orogenital ulcerations, ocular manifestations, arthritis, and vasculitis. The etiology and pathogenesis of Behcet{u2019}s Disease have not been clearly defined. Vitamin D has major biologic activities including cellular proliferation and differentiation, immune system modulation and muscle strengthening. It also may be an environmental factor important in the etiology of T-cell-mediated autoimmune diseases.VDR gene contains more than 470 single nucleotide polymorphisms, which cause functional differences in immuno-modulatory action of vitamin D. The most common polymorphisms of the VDR include FokI and BsmI
