  • Issued also as CD
Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering Summary: New developments and future projects in unexplored areas in the Suez Canal region have disclosed the shortage of data required in engineering practice for analysis of problems involving soil exposed to both static and dynamic loading. The main focus of this research is to study static and dynamic properties of the siliceous sand located at the New Suez Canal area (sarabiom region), Ismailia governorate in Egypt to provide part of the needed information for the upcoming developments in this area. Static properties were determined using CD and CU triaxial tests. Resonant were conducted to determine small strain dynamic properties; and finally, cyclic triaxial tests were conducted to determine large strain dynamic properties. The effects of effective confining pressure and relative density on the static and dynamic properties were studied. A comparison was conducted between the tested sand and other sands reported in literature. In general, data obtained in this research matched well with data reported in the literature for similar soil types and testing conditions
