Objective: - The aim of this study was to assess the association between PRBCS transfusion, feeding and the occurrence of NEC in neonates.Patients and methodology: - This study was Retrospective, included 50 neonates. Patients records were collected from The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Children Hospital, Cairo University during the period from 2008-2011. Preterm and full-term neonates were diagnosed to have NEC according to Bell{u2019}s criteria. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to PRBCs transfusion. Feeding pattern with transfusion was recorded. Results: 71.4% of transfused patients were transfused 48 h before the onset of NEC, 62.9% of transfused patients were on formula feeding during transfusion with significant difference (P value =0.001). Use of mechanical ventilation was significantly higher in {u2013}non-transfusion NEC patients (P=0.043). Conclusion: in this study transfusion of PRBCs increased the incidence of NEC, and feeding with transfusion was a risk factor in development of NEC
