  • Issued also as CD
Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Metallurgical Engineering Summary: The influence of heat input and cooling rate during friction stir welding of aluminum alloy 6061-T6 on affecting the response of the welded joints to post weld artificial aging (PWAA) was investigated. It is found that the ability of PWAA to increase the strength of the welded joints is increased with lowering the heat input and also with increasing the cooling rate during the welding process. The ability to improve the strength of the aluminum alloy 6061 by combining friction stir processing and artificial aging was also investigated. The result shows that the strength of the alloy can be increased to values higher than that of the AA6061-T6 by approximately 20%
