A case control study on 45 cirrohtic patients performed upper GI endoscopy , 30 patients with variceal bleeding from which 15 underwent injection sclerotherapy and 15 band ligation with another 15 cases as control group without varices to determine incidence of bacteremia according to type of endoscopic intervention and most common organisms . It revealed that incidence is higher with injection sclerotherapy and most common organisms are gram positive cocci in advanced cases
