Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Summary: The replacement of lost teeth with endosseous implants is an effective and acceptable treatment modality. Oral implants play an important role for replacing missing teeth to restore the function and aesthetics. The immediate placement of implants into fresh extraction sites has become a routine procedure. They have proven to be a successfully predictable treatment modality, and their osseointegration occurs with a high success rate. The aim of this study was to test the Alloderm as a barrier membrane over immediately placed implants, compaired with biomend in six dogs. In each dog one implant were used on the right side of the mandible inserted in the socket of the extracted 1st premolar and covered with Biomend membrane. On the left side the implant which were inserted in the socket of the 1st premolar were covered with Alloderm. Each side were covered by an acrylic stent and fixed by stainless wire. The sites of the implants on both sides are evaluated clinically and radiographically. The clinical parameters included the general health conditions of the animals and intraoral examination about mobility of the implants and observation of any signs of inflammation or infections that may interrupt the normal wound healing.Radiographic evaluation of bone formation and filling of socket around the implant was done using cone beam panoramic radiograph at 4th week, 2nd month and 3rd month postoperatively. The result showed clinical success of all cases. The bone density measurements were higher in Alloderm than the Biomend. In conclusion the present study clarified that the use of Alloderm membrane to cover the bony defect around the implant placed in fresh extraction sockets may enhance the bone formation around them. However the implants placed immediately after teeth extraction showed a successful osseointegration without the need of covering membrane
