Selective estrogen receptor modulatory (SERMs) are a class of compounds that can act as estrogen receptor (ER) agonists in some tissues while acting as ER antagonists in others. They represent one of the most important xlasses for the treatment of breast cancer, osteoporosis, ovulatory infertility and cardiovascular disease. Tamoxifen was the first SERM to be used in the treatment of metastatic breast cancer. Tamoxifen has evolved as an agent used in all stages of breast cancer especially ER-positive treast cancer, over the past 30 years
