Chicoric acid, the major phenolic acid compound in chicorium intybus is known to possess many pharmacological effects including immunostimulatory, antioxidant, and antiviral activities, most notably against human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). The current routin extraction and purification procedures for chicoric acid are exhaustive and time consuming.
