It consists of the suprapineal recess, the habenular commissure, the pineal body, the pineal recess, the posterior commissure, and the Sylvain aqueduct. The lateral walls are formed by the hypothalami inferiorly and the thalamus superiorly. The massaintermedia projects into the upper half of the third ventricle and often connects the opposing surface of the thalamus. The paired internal cerebral veins that lie in velum interpositum course posteriorly. They course along the curve of the striamedullaris and along the superolateral surface of the pineal body. The union of the two forms the great vein of Galen above or posterior to the pineal and near the inferior surface of the splenium. Acevedo and fossett, 2002
