The study presents new designs for high performance balanced flow modulating valves and fast response high flow rate check valves. The principles of operation and the design configurations of these valves are discussed. Finite element analysis studies are carried out at the maximum loading conditions to determine the stresses and deformations generated in the valves main components. Computational fluid dynamics analyses are performed using ANSYS/FLUENT software package by which steady-state performance characteristics of the valves are obtained and the flow forces acting on the valving elements are determined. The obtained results show that the proposed flow modulating valve has a considerable high flow gain in comparison with the currently available valves of the same or even larger sizes. Results also show that the developed check valves would allow higher flow rates at high operating frequencies when compared with the currently available check valves
