Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Nursing - Department of Maternal and Newborn Health Nursing Summary: Background: vaginal infection is the most common complaint during childbearing period. Aim of this research was to assess the effect of yogurt intake on relieving symptoms of vulvovaginal candidiasis. Design: quasi- experimental design. Setting was the outpatient gynecological clinic at Elfayoum general hospital. Sample, a purposive sample of 200 women with vulvovaginal candidiasis assigned into two groups. The first groups (control) who receive routine medical care only, while the second group (study) received medical care and yogurt. The researcher determined certain days for research group and other days for control group. Tools. Researcher designed this tool. The first tool was structure interview and the second was assessment and follow up schedule for the symptom of vulvovaginal candidiasis. Results indicated that, no statistically significant differences between groups were found in relation to, socio-demographic characteristics. Mean age was 27.97+_5.73 years in the study group while 27.18+_5.35 years in the control group. The educational level there was no statistically significant difference between groups ({2=1.754, p=.15). In relation to monthly income there was no statistically significant difference found between groups ({2=1.245, p=0.21). Moreover, assessment symptom of vulvovaginal candidiasis there was statistically significant difference found between groups In conclusion, The yogurt contain probiotic bacteria such as lactobacillus acidophilus, are beneficial against mucosal candida infections and their beneficial actions by suppressing the growth of candida, so the yogurt intake can relief symptoms of vulvovaginal candidiasis. This research recommended that, yogurt can relief symptom of Vulvovaginal candidiasis by intake of one large cup without sugar
