Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - National Institute of Laser Enhanced Science - Department of Laser Application in Engineering Summary: The vision is the fun of life and is the second mean of acquiring information after hearing. According to world health organization (WHO); August 2014; about 285 million of people have visual impairment and that represents 4.25% of the globe. Thirty nine millions of people are blind and 246 million have vision impairment. Egypt is one of developing countries which has three million of its population suffer from vision impairment with more than 1 million of them are blind. Retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and retinitis pigmentosa (RP), are main causes of non-curative vision impairment and blindness. While AMD leads to central vision loss, RP leads to peripheral vision loss. Retinal cells that became atrophy and degenerated can{u2019}t come back to life and that is the main problem of retinal diseases. Although of the great effort conducted by the researchers to get solutions to these problems, no curative therapies have been reached. Genetic therapy and retinal transplantation are promising areas of research that might provide future solutions. In the last two decades, augmented reality technique was invented to provide a speedy aid to people suffering from retinal impairment. This technique simply augments the real scene by an electronic processing to compensate for the vision impairment. The case-dependent processed digital images of the real world could be directed to the healthy areas of the retina in real time
