Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Internal Medicine Summary: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common cause of impaired liver functions. The role of thyroid dysfunction in NAFLD is still a new issue that needs further investigations. There is an intimate association between insulin resistance and NAFLD. Also the impaired carbohydrate metabolism has been observed in many different thyroid dysfunctions. Our study is directed to assess the relationship between thyroid functions and insulin resistance in non-diabetic patients with NAFLD. Understanding this relationship could be of value in establishing a hypothesis for a mutual prophylactic or curative plan for each of those three issues. The study showed that there is a significant positive correlation between NAFLD and Insulin resistance. There is also a significant positive correlation between NAFLD and thyroid dysfunction with higher prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism in NAFLD patients. On the other hand thyroid dysfunction didn{u2019}t show any statistically significant correlations with insulin resistance, but TPOAB could have a role in the relationship between thyroid dysfunction and insulin resistance
