This prospective randomized study was conducted in Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI) on thirty adult patients, ASA II- III (Child A) suffering from thrombocytopenia scheduled for elective splenectomy. to evaluate the perioperative effects of both inhalational anesthesia (desflurane) and intravenous anesthesia (propofol) on hemostasis guided by the (ROTEM) and routine screening coagulation tests (namely; PT, PTT, INR and platelet count). These parameters were assessed at the following timings; preoperative, after ligation of splenic artery, immediately post-operative, first postoperative day, third postoperative day and one month after surgery. In this study, there was significant change of kidney function (creatinine) postoperatively compared to preoperative level in propofol group but the change was within the normal laboratory range. Also intra- and postoperative decreases of Hb level were observed in both groups when compared to the preoperative values. And there was intra- and postoperative increase in white blood cells as expected response to surgical stimulus
