Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Orthodontics Summary: 1.There is no evidence to confirm or refute the claims that SLB produce superior physiologic tooth movement with more bone deposition. 2.Both SLB and CB produce statistically and clinically significant dental expansion. 3.SLB produce more expansion in the maxillary inter-canine and mandibular inter-molar width, while CB produces more expansion in the mandibular inter-canine width. 4. There was insignificant difference between the change in maxillary and mandibular inter-premolar width and the maxillary inter-molar width. 5.No statistical difference was found for the buccolingual inclination of the mandibular incisors and maxillary molars between SLB and CB. These results must be interpreted with caution
