Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of E.N.T Summary: Our study included 30 patients presented to ENT clinic Kasr Elaini hospital Cairo university with undetected lymph nodes both clinically and radiologically classified as N0 according to the TNM classification. The patients had elective neck dissection performed during salvage total laryngectomy to detect the possible occult cervical lymph node metastasis during the period from October 2013 to February 2016. The current study is a cross sectional analytic study that deals with histopathological finding of neck nodes in patients with laryngeal carcinoma and clinically N0 nodal stage who are initially treated with (chemo)radiotherapy, who received unilateral or bilateral selective neck dissection. In treating cancer of the head and neck, there is great concern for the patient{u2019}s quality of life, and offering valid oncological results in terms of disease-free survival, and some articles mentioned in this study support the claim that it is unnecessary to do selective neck dissection in the recurrent rT1and rT2 and to do selective neck dissection in recurrent rT3-rT4 and supraglottic site
