Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Analytical Chemistry

Nuclear medicine is a unique branch that uses radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosis and/or therapy. In radiopharmaceutical research and development, it is important to investigate specific targeted agents and to radiolabel agents in high yields with appropriate radioisotope. During radiolabeling reaction, Impurities are formed. So, it is important to estimate and separate the impurities in the radiolabeled compounds. Radiochromatography is the most utilized method to determine the purity and identity of radioactive materials. In this thesis, two radiopharmaceutical compounds, namely 99mTc- procainamide and 125I-dobutamine were prepared as a heart imaging agents. Different chromatographic methods were used to determine the most suitable conditions for maximum radiolabelling, assess the purity of the prepared compounds and to study their biodistribution
