In this thesis, we propose a smart wireless access gateway node that has three functionalities: (1) it provides wireless Internet access to users, (2) it works as an IoT enabler with multiple IoT wireless interfaces, and (3) it works as Fog networks enabler with caching and processing capabilities. The node was tested against commercial wireless access points and it shows very comparable results. As an IoT enabler, it acts as a wireless gateway to temperature sensor, magnetic sensor and radiation sensors. It collects the data from different sensors, processes the data locally and sends important information to the cloud. As a Fog networks enabler, it was programmed to act as a video caching node and part of P2P networks. Different practical tests show the capability of the gateway to successfully do the three functionalities
