Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Summary: Aim of the work: is to compare the sensitivity and specificity of the hysteroscopic assessment of tubal patency by the bubble test to diagnostic laparoscopy in infertile patients. Subject and methods: Fifty infertile patient were selected from the obstetrics and gynecology department of Cairo University teaching hospital. All patients were subjected to diagnostic hysteroscopy for evaluation of the tubal patency by bubble test and compared to diagnostic laparoscopy. Results: Hysteroscopy was concordant with laparoscopy in 55 out of 61 patent cases, reaching a sensitivity of 90.16% (95% CI 79.81% to 96.3%). Positive and negative predictive values of 94.83% (95% CI 86.04% to 98.2%) and 85.71% (95% CI 73.63% to 92.8%), respectively were estimated. Hysteroscopic assessment had a 90.99% overall accuracy with the laparoscopic method taken as reference. Conclusion: office hysteroscopic bubble test is precise and accurate when compared with the laparoscopic examination, which is considered worldwide as the criterion standard. Office hysteroscopic is an effective, accurate, minimally invasive method for assessment of tubal patency
