Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Biochemistry Summary: The present study describes the effect of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and vitamin E on infertility of adult male rats. Infertility induced by oral administration of cadmium chloride (CdCl₂) for 30 days. Induction of infertility caused a reduction in testosterone, LH, GSH level, SOD activity, total antioxidant capacity, body weight gain and weights of (L.testis, R.testis, epididymis, seminal vesicle, prostate gland, liver, L.kidney and R.kidney) and increase in FSH, PRL, MDA, NO, ALT, AST, ALP, creatinine and urea levels, CAT activity, DNA fragmentation, weight of spleen and fructose in semen as well as histopathological disturbance in testis cells in comparison with control group. Interestingly, treatment with MSCs produced a significant improvement in several parameters and can fix most disturbances which caused by CdCl₂. Whereas, vitamin E significantly enhanced the change in LH, GSH, MDA, NO, ALP, creatinine, urea levels, CAT activity, fructose in semen and weights of (seminal vesicle, prostate gland and spleen), and caused an improvement but did not return to control in testosterone, FSH, PRL, ALT and AST levels, DNA fragmentation, sperm count, sperm motility, weights of (L.testis, epididymis, liver and R.kidney). While, non-significant changes in SOD activity, total antioxidant, body weight and weight of (R.testis and L.kidney), as compared to control group. After discontinuation of CdCl2, the levels of GSH, MDA and NO, CAT activity, total antioxidant, fructose in semen and weights of (epididymis, prostate gland, liver, spleen and R.kidney) partially returned to their control values. While after cessation of CdCl₂, the other parameters did not return near their control values
